the neurology of posture The Neurology of Posture is the contribution of Don Hazen, DC. It illuminates the immense and daunting complexity of the nervous system, and works with both the central and peripheral nervous systems to improve structural function and balance, and to reduce pain. It is well known that nerves are responsible for proprioceptive and other sensory experience and for firing the muscles that move our bodies. Dr. Hazen's work shows how restrictions in peripheral nerves also limit joint movement. When they become tethered in fascia or shortened through inflammation nerves can function and even feel like tendons and ligaments in restricting motion. Practitioners develop the ability to palpate inflamed peripheral nerves through many layers of muscles, and to sense the glide (or restriction) of neural tissue within surrounding fascial tissues. Gentle release of the restricted nerves typically reduces discomfort and increases freedom of movement.

A simpler explanation of the interrelationship of muscles, joints, posture, movement, internal organs and the elegant nervous system is to be found here: The bottom line: the human body/mind is a complex of interrelated systems, and we do the best we can to understand and to support our health and healing. |
